RD Calculator
Recurring deposit maturity with compounding frequency choice, senior citizen extra rate, year-by-year growth and an FD comparison.
| Year | Invested | Value | Interest |
|---|
| Monthly RD | Invested | Interest | Maturity |
|---|
Each monthly installment earns interest only for its remaining tenure, which is why an RD matures lower than an FD of the same total amount and rate. Monthly compounding is the default here; quarterly compounding is the Indian bank standard and gives a slightly different figure. The FD comparison assumes the full invested amount is deposited on day one and compounded quarterly at the same rate. Interest on RDs is taxable as income; TDS rules depend on your bank, PAN and total interest in a financial year.

How is RD different from FD?
An RD Calculator works like an FD Calculator, except you deposit a fixed amount every month instead of a single lump sum. Each monthly deposit earns interest for a different length of time: the first deposit compounds the longest, the last deposit barely at all. The RD Calculator donut chart shows invested versus interest on the whole set of deposits. With the default example, the RD Calculator shows 3,00,000 rupees invested, 60,053 rupees of interest, and a maturity value of 3,60,053 rupees.
RD suits a monthly salary pattern, because the deposit matches the pay cycle and the money is locked away before it can be spent. The RD Calculator helps compare monthly amounts: a small increase each month adds up over five years, and the chart makes that visible immediately. Like bank deposits generally, recurring deposits fall under deposit insurance, explained on the DICGC website.
What happens if I miss a month?
Most banks charge a small penalty or adjust the maturity for missed deposits, and some allow a grace period. The RD Calculator assumes regular deposits, so treat a missed month as a reason to re-run the numbers rather than trusting the original projection.
