Unlike the mini-auction in 2024, this time it will feature a mega auction. Teams have limited retention options, and most players will return to the auction pool.

Retention:
The Indian Premier League Governing Council has revealed the new rules for player retention ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Franchises suggest extending the mega auction cycle from three to five years, allowing teams to retain a total of 6 players from their current squad, either through direct retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card. Teams also have the option to release all their players and use the RTM cards during the auction.
